How to Find Your Email Sender IP Address
To find the IP address of the server that sent an email, use your email client's "view source" (view source / show original) feature. In the Received: lines in the email headers, you can find the sender's IP address.
Microsoft Outlook (Desktop)
- Open the email you want to query, or double-click to open it in a separate window.
- Click the File menu, then select Properties.
- Find the "Message headers" (Internet Headers) section in the window that opens.
- In lines starting with Received: from, you can find the IP address inside square brackets.
Gmail (Web)
- Open the relevant email.
- Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the email.
- Click the "Show original" option.
- In the raw text that opens in a new tab, search for Received: from lines.
Hotmail / Outlook.com (Web)
- Open the relevant email.
- Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the email.
- Select the "View message source" option.
- Find the Received: lines in the window that opens and note the sending server's IP address.
